Day 146 It's almost party time

This year S has chosen skateboards as the theme for his birthday party. I usually make their invitations, but I found these at Target and he liked them. So, now all I have to do is get them in the mail and figure out what to make for his cake...it will either be a skateboard or a skatepark. I have to start on E's invitations so I can get those out as well (they're having a joing party this year). He wants a baseball party so I'm making baseball invitations and his cake will be a baseball.

Day 145 This and that

As 5th graders, students can sign up to be on the safety patrol which is a big deal at school. The kids are responsible for raising and lowering the flags, assisting kids out of their cars in the morning and into their cars at dismissal. Several weeks ago, the 5th graders "trained" the first group of current 4th graders and then they trained the next group and so on. So, this week was E's week to train so that he's ready for this duty next year as a 5th grader. So, here he is raising the flag and assisting kids out of the car. The last picture is the spread that the teachers put out for the Volunteer Appreciation Breakfast.

Day 144 Teacher's gift

These bags are part of the boys' teacher gifts this year. Each of the bags has some summer goodies in it. The other side of the bag has the teacher's initials. We call them "summer survival bags".

Day 143 Racing

Dh & S having a race doing the backstroke.

Day 142 A Party

We went to a party at a friend's...dh volunteered to cut the watermelon.

Day 141 Author's Tea

Every year the first graders write a story and have it published in a hardcover book. Today was the Author's Tea where they each got to share their stories.

Day 140 Literacy Night at School

There was a "camp out" at school and we went around to different stations to hear camping stories and sing campfire songs. After, the kids got s'mores. E & S are pictured here with our old principal and his 50+ year old trailer.

Day 139 A treat for me

For Mother's Day, my parents gave me a gift certificate to the nail place I go to and I also had a gift certificate that I won from school. So, this morning I got a pedicure and got my nails done.

Day 138 Hot, Hot Hot!

OMG, it was hot today. We couldn't get home from school fast enough...I even said homework could wait...we went swimming instead. I can't wait for the heat of the summer...NOT!

Day 137 Pencils, sharpies and pens oh my!

I'm pretty much done cleaning and organizing the room I posted about a few days ago. This is some of the stuff I had to go through. Don't think we'll need to buy any of these supplies for quite a while.

Day 136 Just chillin'

Lazy day at home for us...although I got a lot accomplished. Boys were watching Speed Racer cartoons.

Day 135 A Day with Friends

We had some friends over for swimming and dinner...we all had a great time!

Day 134 Field Day

Yesterday was Field Day at school and the kids had a blast. They have water games, races, inflatable slides and more. K-2 does it in the morning and 3-5 does it in the afternoon. I volunteered for both and was at school all day. I was exhausted!

Day 133 Cleaning up

As I took my walk around the neighborhood this morning I noticed many a tree that was split in half from the storm last night. Luckily we didn't have any of that, but our backyard sure was a mess this morning. Piles of woodchips lay at the bottom of the pool and the surface of the water was covered in leaves and other assorted debris from around the plants. I spent a good hour cleaning out the pool and I know I'll have to go out there several more times today. We got 5 inches of rain last night and this picture shows the water level in the pool. Normally, the water is a good 1"-1 1/2" below that black "vent". The water was eerily warm today too.

Day 132 Storms a brewin!

We had quite a storm here last night! Baseball size hail, 5 inches of rain, cloud to ground lightning... It was quite scary. We woke the boys around 9:20pm, got them out of bed and downstairs to our "safe place" and that's where we rode out the storm.

Day 131 Best friends!

Today was the choir tour for the K-2nd grade Jr. Choir members. They performed at a Whole Foods store and two retirement homes before having lunch at a local pizza buffet. After we got back to school, the music teacher finished reading the kids a story that she started this morning before we left. So, here are S and his best friend G listening to the story.

Day 130 My project this week

This is our extra bedroom upstairs that is home to lots of stuff...my sewing machine, outgrown clothes, empty storage boxes, loads of stuffed animals, party stuff that never got put away and more. This picture only shows one side of the room, but the other side had a bunch of stuff piled up too. I finally started working in this room today and got one corner completely sorted and cleaned up. My goal is to get the entire room straightened up, get a bed and actually furnish this room.

Day 129 It's just what I wanted!

First I got some great homemade cards from the boys in addition to cards that they picked out with dh. My gift was this watch...it's a heartrate monitor, calorie counter and workout timer. Woohoo! I'll be using it starting tomorrow when I go to the gym. Hope all the mothers out there had a wonderful Mother's Day.

Day 128 Hmmm, I wonder what it is?

Dh and the boys left this stuff on the counter...I wonder what it is.

Day 127 Crazy mom

On Fridays I bring lunch to school for the boys and I sit with them and their classmates in the cafeteria during their lunch. Well today during E's lunch I was being silly trying to balance a mini skateboard on my nose and one of E's classmates took this picture with my phone. I guess I'll always be a kid at heart.

Day 126 I'm impressed!

The boys had early release day today so after school I took them to the local skatepark to see if there was anyone skateboarding. We saw some really talented riders, but this guy was by far our favorite. He is 11 years old and he is AMAZING! I'm sure we'll be going back there soon to watch.

Day 125 Testing the water

The boys were outside today after school, testing motorized toys in the spa.

Day 124 Jr. Choir Concert

S had his first choir concert last night at school. This was just before it started...this is his "mom why are you looking at me and how dare you take my photo" face.

Day 123 A project

As part of an end of the year gift for teachers I'm putting together a summer survival bag. It's a denim bag that will have some fun stuff for summer inside. I normally paint the bags, but this year I decided to decorate them with some fun trim and then let the boys put rhinestones on the bags. So, I picked up this little "tool" and we'll start working on the bags this weekend.

Day 122 Future entomologist

This boy loves to search for and collect bugs. Here he had a dragonfly in his bug container. Don't worry...we set it free.

Day 121 Neat freak

S decided that his closet needed to be rearranged (it didn't need to be btw) so this is him after his hard work...here he is dusting.

Friday, May 2, 2008

Day 120 Making us laugh

E being silly at lunch today using his curly fries as a mustache.

Day 119 My after hours spot

This is my favorite spot after the boys go to bed. Dh has the same chair but I promised I wouldn't photograph him tonight...he's got pneumonia (AGAIN) and is feeling pretty crummy.
